Bethesda Covenant Pastors, New York Clergy, and Bono Participate in "Grace at the Table"

On Tuesday, August 31 Bethesda Covenant pastors Amy and Adam Rohler helped lead worship during the "Grace at the Table - a Service of Prayers for Hungry People" at St. Francis of Assisi Church, across from Madison Square Garden in New York City. Although during the Republican National Convention, this was a non-partisan worship service sponsored by Bread for the World, an organization devoted to seeking justice for hungry people (www.bread.org).

The afternoon service was designed to bring the plight of hungry people to the attention of both Republicans and Democrats. A highlight of the service was a time of reflection by Bono, lead singer of the band U2 and spokesperson for the ONE campaign, an effort to rally Americans to fight global AIDS and extreme poverty (visit www.theONEcampaign.org for more information.)

Other New York area churches and organizations that participated in planning and leading the service included Saint Peters Lutheran Church, Park Avenue United Methodist Church, Plan USA, Rutgers Presbyterian Church, Judson Memorial Church, St. Bartholomews Episcopal Church, and St. Francis of Assisi Church. Pastors Amy and Adam Rohler led a dialogue and sung meditation during the service. The Reverend David Beckman gave the sermon.
