A visit to The Scandinavian House (The American Scandinavian Foundation) is strongly recommended. Located at 58 Park Avenue South (@ 38th Street) four blocks South of Grand Central Station. It offers a wide range of public programs, including: Art & Design exhibitions (especially during the holiday season), as well as concerts, lectures, and film series throuhgout the year. These activities are held on higher floors.
On the main floor there is a Gift Shop--a display of Nordic culture: such as books, crafts, cards, toys, jewelry, clothing, etc.
Next--have Lunch at the "AQ Cafe" Open Monday thru Saturday--10am to 5pm (closed Sunday) reasonable menu. Snack/coffee/tea, etc.
CELEBRATE Hans Christian Andersen's 200th ANNIVERSARY--Dec 4th, 2004 to Feb 12th, 2005. A highly recommended display of toys to delight visitors of any age--(Yes, from 1 to 99!) Should not be missed. Open Tuesday thru Saturday--12pm (noon) to 5pm. FREE admission.
