Upcoming Times and Places

Saturday, October 20 at 4:30pm Village Mingala (Burmese Food) 21 E. 7th St. (between 2nd & 3rd).

NOTE THE CHANGE IN DAY AND THE VERY EARLY TIME (4:30pm)!! We will be enjoying dinner that evening with our UN Guest Speaker Rev. Jim Sundholm - after serving at the Bowery Mission that afternoon.

From TimeOut New York: "Burma’s cuisine reflects the flavors of its neighbors—China, India and Thailand—and the epic menu here covers some serious territory. A cheat sheet will help you find the stars in the lineup, like refreshing (and addictive) young ginger salad, a riot of crisp roasted ginger, toasted lentils, sesame seeds, shredded cabbage, carrots and peanuts, crowned with delicate fried onions. It’s a perfect opener for more mellow main courses. Among the best: mohingha (“Festival Noodle Fish Broth” on the menu), a Rangoon street-stall favorite. Steaming in an earthen pot, it’s a stewlike combination of minced fish, vermicelli noodles, lemongrass, black pepper and chopped hard-boiled eggs. The chicken curry is another hit: tender chunks of chicken swaddled in a pleasant sauce spiced with onions, ginger, cilantro and turmeric. For further direction, consult the friendly staff."
